that some files for whatever reason seem to be too difficult to handle for WFC, which is otherwise a good and reliable piece of software (yet overpriced IMHO for what it offers compared to other products). In this case, you don't have no choice but to rely on another competing CAT or do the work without. That is at least my experience.

I checked about the hotline before I wrote to you, but it looked it was only related to licensing issues.

I have now sent them a message.

As of now, I have already solved the problem by restoring the whole TM folder (in Dropbox) to a time when it was working fine.

We still need to know if there is a way to recover the contents from TM, or whether we have to export the contents from the TMs every few days.

Older / different WFC versions may handle the specific file differently. You'll need to reinstall WF and mess around settings back and forth. It might be reasonable for a huge project.

Bookmarks, internal hyperlinks (references), leftover styles, or complex DOC formatting contribute to WFC freezing or Word freezing or crashing.

I also found that behaviour of WFC appears to be related to Word version. The old good Word 97 is your dream. The more complex Word, the more exposure to unpredictable behaviour.

If your DOC file is clean or has common-sense tables, there should be no problem. My own workaround is to clean up complex files before starting WFC. This applies in particular to post-OCR files. It takes some time, but you can reduce effort with a nice macro.

Thanks for your help here – I had the same issue and managed to open the txlf as a .txt file and remove the offending attribute. All seems to be working well now.

Thanks again!

So if this started happening after an update, could we not just use an older version of word 2019 before the update?

Just to let you all know, I've gone back to an older build of word 2019 and everything works fine again. It's a September build, the number is Version 1909 (Build 12026.20264)

You can use this info on how to go back to an older version.

Post title: WFC 8.18 Does The Job

I had no problems in tables with WFC 6.45 and earlier in Word 2010 on Windows 7, my preferred combination of all times.
The table issue appeared with Word 2019 on Windows 10 (awful combination).
Updating to WFC 6.99 o 7.x didn't solve the problem, but new version 8.18 did.

Alberto, did you have to make any additional changes when installing 8.18 or did the simple fact of upgrading solve the problem? I've checked out WF's website for the version history and according to them, 8.18 is "Nothing drastically new".

I was also wondering if you knew of any other people who've managed to solve the "tables" issue by upgrading.

I updated to 8.18 now, with no additional changes, and my first test was positive!

Thanks good to know. I'm assuming you previously had issues with tables or X formats with WFC, and they're now cleared up?

Just upgraded to Windows 10.

In Wordfast Classic, but not in Word itself, it now leaves a double space when you ctrl-delete the word after the cursor, rather than just one space. How do I stop this please?

Looks like WF only removes the word. The space behind it remains and joins the one standing before the removed word. That's why you see double spaces.

No idea how to prevent but does it really cause any problem? Once you have finished translating and you're in the correction and edition phase, you can remove all double spaces with a single operation: find all double spaces and replace with single spaces. Like when you write anything in an editor.

This appears to be a "feature" of the recent versions of WfC (What version of WfC are you using?), rather than Windows 10.
WfC disables Word's Smart Copy/Paste in segments. As you have noted, Smart Copy/Paste works fine when Wf is inactive. It didn't use to.

This can be verified by going to File | Options | Advanced | Cut, Copy and Paste | Settings, and re-checking the "Adjust sentence and word spacing automatically" box. When returning to the segment, Smart Copy/Paste will work, but will re-disabled in the next segment. In addition, Pasting similarly does not insert a space when the cursor is on the last letter of a word.

Very annoying indeed.

It’s the latest version. Yes it is a problem and yes it is really annoying!

The whole reason I use WFC is that I know how it works and I can edit my dictation quickly and efficiently using keystrokes.

Having to delete these extra spaces is a pain. I could get used to hitting delete twice every single time, but then it would mess up my editing in other applications.

Thanks for your input. I thought it might be a setting but I’d better report it to the developer as a bug.

Hello, Carrol,

I've just faced the same problem in saving the INX file as you did 3,5 years ago. What did you do to save the file? Double-checked all the tags in the translation? Is it possible to solve this problem fast?
I use Word Fast Pro3.14 on Windows 7.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Anna

Wordfast 5 not working due to Java error

On December 27, 2019 I tried to use Worfast 5 and a request to download a new version came up as soon as I opened WF5. I downloaded it and tried to install, but since then, I keep getting a Java error "Java was started but returned exit code = 1".

Of course, I followed all steps regarding installation issues in the wiki and support pages and then I wrote to the hotline. These are all the instructions I followed:

Download and run the Microsoft tool recommended at [url removed]

I have added an exception for my antivirus and Windows Defender.

I am still unable to accept Wordfast 5 jobs as my issue was unresolved.
