Post title: Did you contact the hotline again?

I recommend insisting. This is a users forum, even though, in my experience, Wf people do monitor it more or less regularly.

Me, I would send messages to the hotline until the issue is resolved.

In the meantime, have you uninstalled/reinstalled Wf?? Have you googled "Java was started but returned exit code = 1"? There are plenty of references to this error message, and they all point out to a Java issue (rather than a Wf issue). The Wf Wiki page you referred to deals only with Wf installation issues, which may or may not be your problem.

How about uninstalling, then re-installing Java, and then doing the same for Wf??

Sooooo, I just updated to version 5.13.0 from Jan 29, 2020 , and 2 of the 3 issues I mentioned above were fixed in this release.
Specifically:
Problem #2 - WF5 does not remember the Note Type setting: --- Now it does!
Problem #3: The font size in the Add/Edit note dialog is extremely small, it is very hard to see. --- It is bigger now! Cannot be configured b the user, but at least it is bigger now (12 points, I think).

Yay!
:D

Problem #1 - Note dialog blocks everything else --- This still persist.
:(

Hi! Yes, I know this is a user's forum, sorry for this, but I need to find a solution.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled WF. I have googled and tried the solutions I found.

I will keep trying and insisting with the hotline.

Importing RTF reviewed files

The agency I'm working with sends me reviewed files in RTF format. These have translated (locked) and partially translated (to be reviewed) segments as well as blank segments. These files already include segments that don't need to be translated as well as repetitions.
Is there a way to import these files into WFP 5? The workaround till now has been taking the source text and translating it normally, then copying and pasting it back into the RTF file, which the agency wants as final text.

I have a related issue.

I am working with WordFast Pro 3.4.14 on a sdlxliff file converted to txml format.

When I do a cleanup on the txml file, it gives me an sdlxliff file as output rather than a Word file.

I'm sure there must be an easy fix to this, I just don't know which setting to tweak. Does anyone know what I need to do?

Edward, if you loaded an SDLXLIFF file into Wordfast Pro and translated it, the translation is saved back into an SDLXLIFF file. That's the expected behavior. The translation is always saved back into the original file type (the exception being PDF, which is converted to DOC). I believe the person who sent you the SDLXLIFF file should be fine with the translated SDLXLIFF file because they can process it further in their software.

Hi David.
Thanks for your input. I had surmised that this would be the case. You get the same format you start with. Yes, the client was fine with me sending back the SDLXLIFF file (as well as the exported TMX file, just in case).

Do you know of any way to get a Word file out of the translated TXML file?

Supposing you want a MS Word file with the source and target texts (or just the target text – see Preferences / General) for reference purposes, click Get MS Word table icon on File tab in Wordfast Pro 5. Is this what you are looking for?

How to penalize different TMs

Poster: Maaike van Vlijmen

I'm using WF Pro 5.4 on a Mac. A client has given me two TMs to work with, so I have a primary and a secondary TM. I've been asked to penalize the secondary TM at 10% - like they did in Trados.

First of all, I have never done this before (I didn't even know what penalties were), so I tried to change the value of "case" to 5 (that's apparently the maximum). But every time I change the case value of the secondary TM, the one of the primary TM changes as well. I cannot seem to change the values separately for each TM.

Am I doing this right? I don't know how to penalize in general and I don't know how to penalize just one TM and not the other. I'm clueless...

Many thanks in advance for your help!

I would first update version of WFP to 5.13.

Once Project is open with two TMs set to Primary/Secondary, go to Preferences > Penalties and set Secondary TM penalty to 10. Also Wordfast leveraged score from secondary TM will have asterisk.

Let us know if this worked.

Thank you,
John

Background colour on active segment - possible in WFP5?

Poster: Pablo Strauss

Hi all, in an earlier version of WFP (3 I believe) I used to be able to set background colours for segment.
In WFP5 it seems the best I can get is a thin border of colour around the active segment, but within the segment it's white.

Is there any way to change the colour of the actual background segment? I really prefer not staring at white all day.
Thanks!
Pablo

Can you use MemoQ for a company working with Wordfast?

Poster: Enora Lessinger

I work for Transperfect, which works exclusively with a version of Wordfast. I do not have Wordfast and work with their online version of it, which works fine but feels like a waste as I am not creating my own TM as a result. I depend entirely on theirs.

I already own MemoQ and like it a lot, so I'd rather not invest in Wordfast. My question is whether I can download their source files and TMs, convert them to MemoQ and then convert them back once translated? Would it make any difference for the company, i.e. would they even notice, and if so would they care?

Thanks in advance!

I assume these RTF files are not files that were exported from TXLF files, but are files that were exported from some format that the agency uses in-house. In that case, I know of no way for WFP5 to open and translate it. I deal with similar files in a way similar to your method.

I create a column in Excel with numbers from 1 to whatever, and then paste that column into the RTF file as an extra column, so that every row has a unique number. Then, sort the table by translation status. Then convert the 100% matches into a TM, convert the fuzzy matches into another TM (with a penalty applied, so that they do not turn up as 100% matches), and then copy the source text of the fuzzy and untranslated files to new file, open that file in WFP5, and translate it. Then, after the translation is done, paste the content back into the RTF file, then sort by the numbered column (so that the segments are in their original order), and then delete the numbered column.

If some row statuses are not indicated using text by using e.g. row colour, then the sorting has to be done in Excel (a very recent version), because you can't sort by cell colour in Word.

I read your comment 10 times and my head is still spinning :)
Seems really complicated and I don't know how to do all that penalty stuff, I'm just a translator...I'll do it manually with good ole copy and paste.

Tahnks for you reply!

Paste from Wordfast Pro5 into browser without formatting (Windows)

Hi everyone,
Is there a trick to copy and paste into and out of WFP without getting the formatting. Currently when I cut and paste this:
Programme de formation de l’école québécoise (no tag, the text only)
I get this
<i realtype="italic">Quebec school training program</i> (QEP)

I'm using Windows, and use Autohotkey if there might be a solution there. I tried a plain paste AHK script but that hasn't helped.

I don't get this behaviour on other CAT tools (Studio, OmegaT).

Thanks for any advice
