Widening files in a table | My question corrected

Post title: My question corrected

Wordfast Classic - Microsoft Word 2010 - I am translating an Annual Report of a Bank, I have scanned it to Word 2010. There are many tables with too small letters/numbers, I use: mouse - right click - table settings - ROW- minimum, and then the ROW enlarges. My problem: it works only ROW by ROW. How can I apply it to the entire table? I've selected the entire table, but to no avail. Any suggestions? Thank you.

And here is my question in Spanish, the language of my computer: "Hay muchas tablas con letras/números muy pequeños- Yo aplico: ratón - clic derecho - propiedades de tabla - fila - mínimo; y entonces la fila aumenta de tamaño. Mi problema es que solo funciona FILA por FILA. ¿Cómo hago para aplicar el proceso a toda la tabla? He seleccionado toda la tabla pero nada - ¿Sugerencias? Gracias

I have a macro that I sometimes use, which fixes row height on *all* tables in the file. This may not be what you're looking for, except that perhaps you can figure out (Google...) how to change row width instead of row height:

Sub tablesconvert_rowheight()
For Each aTable In ActiveDocument.Tables
aTable.Rows.HeightRule = wdRowHeightAuto
Next aTable
End Sub

To add a macro in Word 2003, press Alt+F8, then in the "Macro name field", type "asdfasdfasdf", and click "Create". Then, an empty macro called "asdfasdfasdf" will have been created at the bottom of the macros file, so simply replace that new dummy macro with the macro above. Ctrl+S to save, and click the "x". To run a macro, at any time, press Alt+F8, scroll down (or type the name) and click "Run" or press ENTER.

This information seems accurate too (on how to add a macro):

I have the same problem and wanted to make sure pink segments remain committed however.
Also, I was wondering (sorry, but I'm a newbie): if you commit everything only at the end of your work, will you still be able to leverage what you translated in case of repetitions? I mean, are they already in the TM or do you have to make a concordance search for every single term?

How do I share a Wordfast Pro 5 TM with someone else on Dropbox?

Hi all
Wf Pro is proving to be very complicated about sharing a TM on Dropbox with someone else so that we can both work on documents in a shared project.
I have shared my Dropbox folder containing the project, but my colleague is not able to see and select the TM for the project.
My guess is that this is because all that info seems to be stored, for some strange reason, in the Users folder deep in the depths of Microsoft's operating system and seeing as all that is not in Dropbox, I can't share it with my colleague.
The whole "Connect to Remote" seems incredibly complex - we have no idea where we even get a URL for the TM or what a "Cluster Short Code" is...
Surely there must be a way of doing this without having to do a PhD in Computer Science...?!
Any guidance much appreciated.
Thanks!

I have been reliably told that the best way of doing this is via Wordfast Anywhere: ie upload a TMX format of the TM to WFA and then each person link to that WFA TM in Wf Pro.

What do you mean when you say 'load'?
Do you mean "set them for use in Wordfast by accessing them directly from the Ext HD"?
It's not really a brilliant idea to work in W/F with TMs on an external drive, so maybe you'd do better to copy the files directly onto the laptop and use them from there?

So an external hard drive is not a good idea to work between 2 computers? I thought it would be a better way than just Dropbox, giving back-up AND inter-operability....so not ......OK I'll try copying onto laptop. Jack

Hi Jack,

For the use case you describe, Wordfast already gives you steady options for doing this. You can use two different systems:

1_Use Wordfast Anywhere as a TM and Glossary remote hosting service: Convert your TMs to TMX or wftm and upload them there. As long as you have an internet connection, your TMs and glossaries will be updated as you work. This allows many computers with WFPro5 or 3 installs to share the same TMs and glossaries. It's free a long as you have a valid license for Pro 5 or 3. See my tutorial on this here: [url removed]

2_Use Wordfast Server
Before I describe further, note that WF Server needs to run on Windows. It won't run on Mac, unless you're using a Virtual Machine.
WF Server will behave like Wordfast Anywhere but without the size limits. It also allows that you can run it without an internet access if it's installed on the same machine as WF Pro 5. Here's a use case:
_Laptop 1 has WFPRO 5 and WF Server installed on it. Pro 5 reads and write on the TMs and Glossaries from WF Server on the same machine.
_At home a desktop computer runs a licensed version of Pro 5
_The Pro 5 on desktop is made to connect to the TMs stored on the laptop where WF server is installed.

In effect, this means that while on the go, you translate on your laptop and your TMs and glossaries are updated and when you get back home, from your desktop you will be able to access and update the TMs and glossaries that are on your laptop. This helps for situations where you won't get internet connection.

Off course if you always have internet coverage, you can make this use real-time.

Wordfast Server is free for freelancers up to 3 connections.

So far all I can do is Import an existing TM (losing the latest translations done).

Post title: Laptop and desktop use case

Hello to all,

While helping out on a forum, I just thought of a use case that would make sense for many, so I'll add it here.

Translator has a laptop and a secondary computer that stays at home (i.e. a desktop computer)
The translator wants to be able to translate on the go with the laptop but internet coverage is expected to not be reliable all the time while translating.

In this case, the user could install Wordfast Server on the laptop.
On the laptop, the user needs to run a CAT tool that can connect to Wordfast Server (Wordfast Pro 5 or 3, Wordfast Classic or Memo Q).
Then the CAT tool is made to connect to TMs and Glossaries in WF Server on the same laptop.

At home, the desktop has an install of a CAT tool that can connect to Wordfast Server (Wordfast Pro 5 or 3, Wordfast Classic or Memo Q).
The CAT tool on the desktop computer is made to connect to TMs and Glossaries in WF Server (hosted on the laptop).
The connection is made over the home network (wifi or ethernet).

In effect, TMs and glossaries are always tapped and updated while on the go (laptop) and when back home sitting at the desktop computer, access is made to the same TMs and Glossaries to tap into them and update them.

Simple enough system, easy maintenance and quite reliable. Not too bad I think

Hope this helps,

Post title: TM file(s) inaccessible

The cryptic error message means WFP5 cannot access the TM file(s). Have you renamed, moved, or deleted any of the TM file(s) or the folder in which they are stored? If so, this would explain why the TM became inaccessible to the software.

If you haven't touched the files, are they perhaps stored in a folder synced to the cloud (Dropbox, Google Drive etc.)? If so, the syncing process can make the files unavailable to WFP5. Even worse, when the automatic syncing process is working with the files while WFP5 accesses them, the files may get corrupted. So keeping WFP5 TMs in cloud folders is strongly discouraged. If you still want to keep them in a cloud folder, make sure you always pause the syncing process while you work in WFP5 (but not all cloud services let you pause the syncing process, I believe).

Hi Wolfgang,
5.9 was a major under-the-hood java update that won’t be released.
There is a release candidate for 5.10 that is now being beta tested and debugged.
5.10 added in Quicktools all of the tools that were missing from WFP3, namely: extract frequents (renamed as extract uniques), populate frequents, split/merge TXLF files, invert source/target, and Transcheck.
Release dates are hard to pin down as they depend on how many bugs are identified during QA and beta testing and the time it takes to fix them.
My guess is that 5.10 will be released within the next 2 to 6 weeks.
Kind regards,
John

Topic: WFP 5.8 - can I configure the information displayed in the terminology panel?
Poster: Comunican

Hi all
I've checked the manual but can't find any details of how I can configure the columns displayed in the terminology pane of WFP 5.8...
The only option seems to be to have the source term above the target term and a little "i" in a circle, which I can click on to see which glossary it was found in and how reliable it is. However, this is tedious, especially if I am using multiple glossaries and want to prioritise one of them (usually my own).
Surely, there must be a way of having all this information displayed by default in columns: source term, target term, glossary name, reliability, notes...
Does anyone know please?
Thanks

I hate that feature of WFP5. I find it better to use the mouse to hover the pointer over the source term, that way you can see the details of the various suggested glossary entries. I also get very fed up with not being able to arrange the order in which the glossaries and TMs display. It's not adequate to just be able to choose whether TMs are primary or secondary.

In fact, there's an increasing amount of stuff about WFP5 that annoys me and, if I wasn't approaching retirement, I'd be looking to switch to a different CAT tool.
