Post title: syncing solutions
Dylan Jan Hartmann wrote:

I used to use google drive without problems but since they updated to the 'file stream' I began having huge delays using the cloud-based TMs and glossaries.

The work around while WF fixes this is to export a GLP, which gets uploaded to the cloud. Then download that glp and run the files locally from your computer.
I just updated my "Google Drive Desktop" to "Google Backup and Restore" as opposed to "Google File Stream". All seems to be working ok. But I don't sync between two computers.

As for the sync problem, here are a couple of solutions, each with their drawbacks:
1. Buy one super laptop instead of a laptop and desktop and eventually use an external monitor and/or keyboard for working at your desk. This is what I did 8 years ago and have never looked back. Obviously, this option is not for everyone but if anyone is in the market for a computer upgrade, consider this.
2. Choose one computer to be your main computer (MC). When you need to work on the secondary computer (SC), export the project as a package (GLP file), open it on the SC to translate and eventually generate the target file. To update your TM on the MC: export the project on the SC as a package, open the initial project on the MC and import the package from the SC. Finally, use clean-up to update your TM on the MC and/or generate the target file if you haven't already. This solution seems complicated and doesn't give you all access to all bilingual files, projects, TMs, and glossaries you want regardless of which computer you are on.

Hello,

There is a ticket to investigate and fix this issue.

In the meantime, can you ask the agency to re-segment the file with soft returns as an end-of-segment delimiters?

Kind regards,

I'll do that next time. Thanks, John!

I cannot continue working but need to deliver by tomorrow. I know it's the weekend but I hope someone can help.

Salve a tutti,

Grazie mille

Olga

Post title: Version de Windows/MS Office

Unfortunately, Wordfast Classic is only compatible with Excel up to Windows 10 /MS Office 2010. Later versions of MS Office/Excel are incompatible with WF Classic.
I keep one PC with MS Office 2010 installed especially for Excel and WFC translations. If you uninstall your current version of Office and install the 2010 version, WFC should work with your Excel files again.

PS. Excuse me for responding in English, but Italian isn't one of my working languages.

Dear Neilmac,

Thank you so much for your response.
You are confirming what I was thinking as WC does work with Word files but it
doesn't with Excel ones and I guess, at this point, nor with Power Point files.
In the meantime I forwarded a ticket to Wordfast support, maybe they might have
a kind of plug-in to sort this out.
In case they reply me providing a solution I will post it here as well, so you might take advantege from it.

Thank you again:-)

Best,
Olga

Yes, it won't do PowerPoint files either. The problem is the MS Office software, not Wordfast. I don't think there is any solution except uninstalling Office and reinstalling an earlier version. I find Office 2010 does absolutely everything I need it too. The only "improvements" in more recent versions seem to be the option of more intricate templates, which I really don't need.

Dear neilmac,

You are perfectly right, the problem is Office 2016. I just received the following email from WF support team:

"Unfortunately, Microsoft removed the link between MS Word and Excel/PowerPoint that Wordfast Classic needs in order to let you translate Excel or PowerPoint the way you mentioned. The old method works, I believe, in Word 2010, not any newer.
To translate Excel or PPT documents, we recommend Wordfast Pro or Wordfast Anywhere, accessible at "

Hope this could be of further help.

Thank you so much and enjoy the day ahead:-)

I know I'm revisiting a very old thread, but if anyone sees this: does this mean you have to own Trados in order to export the file for it to be read by WordFast?

I'm on the verge of buying my first CAT tool, have heard good things about all of them, but I'm wondering how to work on the market at large if file formats are not cross-program compatible. In other words, if you need to use Trados to export a .sdltm file into a useable format for WordFast, that means you have to own both programs.

I appreciate anyone who can clarify this for me! Sincerely.

If you don't own Trados and you have an sdltm file then somebody must have sent it to you and they must have Trados. Simply ask them to send you a tmx file instead. In 12 years, I've never had anybody unable or unwilling to do this. Tmx is intended for just that purpose. When you have finished your translation, clean the document into a new TM and export/save this to a tmx to send back to them.

That is the message that pops up when I click on the "start translation/next segment" button. If I hit Alt+Down, the cursor moves down a line, then again, then again, then back up to the top.
I have tried the "activate all macros" option, to no avail. I have installed the latest version of WfC: ditto.
A colleague tells me this happened to him once and he ended up uninstalling then reinstalling Word! Does anyone know of a less drastic workaround?

Hello Clara,

There is an option in the preferences to allow segment expansion beyond an end-of-paragraph marker. It is called "Merge across paragraphs" and you'll find it under "Translations":
