Dear all,

We are pleased to announce that the call for speakers is now open for the 4th annual Wordfast Forward User Conference to take place on June 1-2, 2018 in Cascais, Portugal.

The theme of this year’s conference is: Interconnectivity

The conference program will feature two full-days of hands-on learning about Wordfast’s entire product suite, a pre-conference trainers symposium, software integration sessions, and one-to-one meetings with experts. The networking program will include a gala dinner and informal meet-up dinners, a surfing safari, a night out on the town, and more exciting events!

Being a speaker is your chance to be a part of the official program and share your savoir-faire with colleagues. We are looking for sessions specifically related to how you use or manage the use of two tools from Wordfast and why. We are also interested in sessions that show how you use other tools in connection with Wordfast to run your translation business or as part of your translation workflow. Finally, we’d love to have a fun, interactive session (translation-related or not) that would be of interest to attendees’ guests and participants alike (like Marian’s chocolate tasting session in 2016!).
If you have a proposal that is not related to the above, but you are convinced users will find your content constructive, by all means, please submit your proposal!

Your submission must include the following: your bio, a brief description, and at least two learning objectives.

Submit your session at the following link:

Speakers will be entitled to a 50% discount on the conference fee, priority room booking at the Hotel Estoril Eden, and a few more surprise VIP perks. The deadline for submissions is January 26th!

Speaker or not, we look forward to seeing you in Cascais. Stay tuned, registration will be opening soon!

I do not think I will fly to Porugal.

Here are three topics someone can elaborate:

1. EU language SW laboratory offers free tools (SW to download and to install). A short time TM server for maximum 10000 TUs has name Cyclosis.

[url removed]

Patches to OmegaT | Silvestris Laboratory

Patches to Omega-T 4.1 | Silvestris Laboratory

[url removed]

From TU in my local TMX:

EN-GB-CS_Silvestris\tm\auto\43-patches-to-OmegaT-4.1_en-cz.tmx

-- as an example we provide a support for the text memory format which is used by WordFast and Anaphaseus;
-- jako příklad poskytujeme podporu pro formát textové paměti, který používá WordFast a Anaphaseus;

2. Who want host database Cyclotis by Silvestris Lab, can use their paid servis:

[url removed]

The pages are in English, French and Esperanto.

3. My translating of translatable PDF in OmegaT:

a) I create a project in Wordfast Pro (3/4/5) and I put PDF into it

b) Wordfast Pro creates DOC and TXML / TXLIF

c) I open DOC in MS Word and save as DOCX

d) this option can be skipped: I add DOCX into DGT-Wizard, that wipe-out (reduce) not necessary tags

e) I translate (tag-wiped) DOCX in OmegaT or in DGT-OmegaT

Another method, instead of a) with WFP and b) I open PDF directly in MS Word 2016. It is faster, but DOCX is very big.

Wordfast Pro 5 TM problems

Hello, I am new to Wordfast. Am using the Wordfast Pro5 30 day trial.
I have created a New project, new TM and new Glossary.

Once the project is created, it shows me that it has created the bilingual file, de MT and the Glossary.
When I start translating in the TXLF editor, after I commit the first segment an error message appears "TM/MT error. Add segment failed", I click ok, and move on to the next segment, after I commit, it shows the message "No writable Ts are available" there is a "Create new" button on the message, so I click that button, create a new TM, place it as my primary, and start translating again. Again the same error message appears.

I repeat the whole procedure again, and it goes on and on.

I started from scratch, deleting al my TM files, and creating a brand new one. The same. On and on.

This is very frustrating, because I am working on a very large project, and translating it without the use of a TM.
I can use Machine Translation ok, but there is no point in using a CAT Tool if I can not use a TM that will help me with my current project and future projects.

Please, I hope anyone can help me solve this frustrating problem.

Hi Carlos, where are you saving the TM to? Someone had a problem the other day because she was trying to save the TM on a USB drive. That USB drive was not properly formatted, which was the source of the problem. I would try saving it in a simple basic location right under my documents. I would also make sure not to use any special characters like arrow signs like > or

Hello John:

I am saving my TM in my hard drive, in the "Documents" folder, I have created a "Translations Memories" folder and saved them there.
The path is C: User/Documents/Documents/Translation memories. My hard drive has 540 Gb of free space.
I am also only using capital letters and numbers for the name of the TM

I am using a Windows 10 OS and I am running on a Laptop Dell with i7 processor and 8GB of RAM.

I can retrieve my TM when I open up the project. But there are no Translation Units written on them.
And I am very sure that they are no "Read Only" TM.

They can be seen on the Translation memory tab in the project view, and they are checked green.

I have reviewed all this, once again, and still having the same problem.

Hope you can help.

Hello JLO1:
Thank you for your answer. Yes, I am sure they are not "Read Only" TM. I did not click on the "read only" box when creating the TM. I hope you can further help me.

Hi there!

I have always been using Windows and now would like to use a macbook pro (2015). The thing is that I use trados 2015 and you can't use it natively on a mac (without bootcamp or parallel) whichis quite inconvenient so I was thinking about using Worfast pro 5. One of my clients wanted me to use worfast pro 5 for their projects and I realized that this Cat tool works natively on a Mac.

What are your opinions about Worfast pro 5? Is it worth it? Can it replace trados ?
I love trados 2015, it's really easy to use. What do you think about wordfast pro 5?

I really don't know what to do. What I know is that I'm fed up of windows and am going to buy a mac but I don't know which Cat tool to use.

Some comments would be very helpful! Thanks!

I've got the opposite experience to you.

I've only ever used a Mac and began using Wordfast Pro and have stuck to it. It is compatible with most other CAT tool files, so I've never encountered any issues. The support team is very fast to respond and helpful with any queries.

Having seen previews of Trados, I think the Wordfast system appears more user friendly and simple to use, but this is only face-value opinion. I've never used Trados, so can't advise there.

Put simply, it just works.

Topic: WPF5 - moved project folders and projects disappeared from list. How to restore?
Poster: andare

I archived all my 2017 projects in a new folder ad Wordfast pro 5 lost all paths to the projects, so my project list is now empty. I tried restoring the original folders to their original locations but WPF5 just doesn't see them anymore.
I'm on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.06

I can't find any application support files in the OS Library, how can I restore my projects?

I know I can add them back manually but unfortunately WPF5 gives me error messages ("Specified project has already been added to the project list." - but no project exists) and it doesn't connect to the TMs.

Help?

Post title: Learn by doing, my experience

Hi Sandrine,
You can try out a fully-functional version of WFP5 for 30 days:
[url removed]

Just export your linguistic assets (TM and glossaries) as TMX and TBX files, then import them into WFP5.
If it works and you feel comfortable, then make the switch.

I switched to a Mac 8 years ago and in doing so, started using WFP3. A very good client asked me around the same time to start using SDL Trados and even offered me a license. I took them up on it since I had Parallels installed on my computer but quickly realized:
1. The license they gave me was a starter edition so I could not use MT or multiple translation memories.
2. Parallels was making my machine slower and slower.
3. I could translate their SDLXLIFF files with WFP.

So, I never really started using SDL Trados and continued to work for them using WFP. All they had to do was send me a pre-translated (segmented) SDLXLIFF file.
At the end of the day, the most important criteria for a translation agency (in my opinion) is not the means you use to do your translation (imagine an agency telling you you have to have a Mac to do the translation!), it is how good it is, how consistent it is with terminology or the TM (they can check by running QA), and that it is delivered on time. After that come compatibility issues, or how easy it is for them to send it to the next person in the workflow and/or update their TM. As a PM, if I had to choose between the best translator using another tool plus 2 extra minutes to export a TM for a job OR a mediocre translator using the same tool, I would take the best translator any day.

The only thing that can cause a problem is when a client asks you to connect to a remote TM to ensure real-time consistency (say 5 people are working on the same job at once) and centralize linguistic assets. This is difficult if you are not all using the same CAT tool.

Hope this helps!
John

Post title: Keep a Windows partition?

Just an additional suggestion. If you already have Trados, you may like to keep it for a time on a Windows 10 partition in Bootcamp. The cost of a Windows license from Amazon can be very cheap. As a Mac user, I started with Trados in the early days of Windows Vista, but moved fairly quickly to Wordfast. The two have a lot in common but are different enough to present a significant learning curve when moving from one to the other. Reading the User Guide is rather helpful!

Thank you all for your answers. I think I'm gonnna use wordfast on my mac and see how it goes. It doesn't seem that different from Trados so I shoudn't have any problem adapting myself.

I let you know how it goes.

Hello everyone

I've written a new, better version of my "WFC say no" script.

Normally, when WFC alerts the user about a glossary mismatch or a QA error, the "Yes" button is selected by default, but most such warnings are false positives, so it would have made more sense to make the "No" button the default button so that the translator can simply press ENTER or spacebar to cancel the warning.

With this script, whenever such a message pops up, pressing ENTER will send "No" and pressing the NumPadAdd (the plus key on the numberpad) will send "Yes". You need AutoIt to use the script.
