Wordfast Pro 5 Clean up unsuccessful

Hi all,

I am having difficulty creating the final translated file of an idml file using clean up. I have done a Transcheck and have found no tag errors. I think it could possibly be to do with the fact that the translation TXLF Editor progress bar is showing 99%(17 words left). I have gone through the whole file in the Editor. There are no empty segments and have verified all the exact matches that were showing green. Now they are showing purple but the progress bar still does not move to 100%. Can anyone help me out with this? Is this the reason why I can't clean up the file and if so how can I fix this?

I am using WFP 5.1.1 on MacOS Sierra 10.12.5

Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Dania,

In the past I experienced something similar. It was resolved in the following way:
-I saved the project;
-I closed the WordFast
-I rebooted the computer;
-I opened the WordFast;
-I opened the project;
When I gave out, everything worked perfectly.

It sounded like some sort of memory allocation error or something about file interaction.

I hope it helps you.

Cordially,

Curado

Wordfast Pro 5 Clean up unsuccessful | Progress bar is not the problem

Post title: Progress bar is not the problem

The progress bar does not increase if you commit an unedited fuzzy or unedited machine translation segment. It happens quite frequently that you don't have to edit a fuzzy match (e.g. a formatting difference). Currently, if you want it to progress, you can either add a space, remove it, then commit or use the "Verify Segment" icon (shortcut) or click on the green arrow in the far right column before committing.
This is confusing many users and I believe it will be changed in the next version.
So don't be confused by an incomplete progress bar.
I would contact tech support to see what the issue is. 9/10 times it is a tag but could be something special about the IDML file that corrupts the reconversion back.
Kind regards,
John

My client has sent me a file in mqwxliff format.

Is there a way to open this in Wordfast Pro 3?

Many thanks for your help!

Is this mentioned in the documentation/Help???

I, too, have encountered that issue before, and your answer is the first explanation that I see.

Hello everyone

It would seem that WFC had hijacked my Word 2016's ribbon.

I never use WFC in Word 2016. How can I get rid of it?

Thanks
Samuel

By "it" I don't mean the ribbon -- there is no cure for that design blunder.

I think it works if you change the file extension to xliff.

Otherwise, you can import it directly in WFP 5.

Best,
John

Samuel,

Is it not because macros are disabled?

It's a long time since I have used WFC, but as I recall there was an uninstall option, but the macros would have to be enabled for it to work.

No, enabling macros does not change the situation.

As requested by a translation agency, I bought Wordfast pro 3, and I have to use their remote TM each time. But there is a big problem, the connection speed to remote TM is too slow, so the wordfast just freezes for about 20-40 secs when I switch to next grid each time.
If there is a way to download remote TM?

WFC 6.99 SE sibling TMs

Hello,

A friend of mine asked me to assist with getting into CATing--i.e. WordFast Classic on MS Office 2013.
It was ok, before I noticed that the latest version uses a test Background TM, ignoring two sibling ones at the same folder. The settings are standard and Concordance manually does find 75%+ fuzzy matches properly.

1) Is a demo WFC somehow restricted or a new version has certain specifics?

2) How to enable "up to 20 colleagues via LAN", would different WFC versions (5+) and W8/7/Vista/XP 32/64 get along?

Thank you

Post title:"start using Wordfast Classic with all its features activated, except these demo limitations"

1) Quoting from Wordfast web site ( ) the only limitations of the demo versions are:

"The Translation Memory (TM) will hold only about 1000 translation units. When the limit is reached, a message will tell you; at that point, you can create a new, empty translation memory(1) and keep translating.

Links to Machine Translation (MT) will only work for two or three segments in a session.

The demo mode is not time-limited"

2) Wordfast web site actual quote is "An unlimited number of users can share the same glossaries over a LAN (Local Area Network)." (see #of).

The procedure is explained (succinctly, I must add) on page 18 of the current manual ( )

I don't understand your mention that Wf " ignor[es] two sibling ones at the same folder". Did you try to select one of the existing TMs as BTM? if such selection is impossible, then it is because of the 500 TU limit of demo mode.

In such a case, your colleague might use WfAnywhere to get a taste of the features.

The latest user manual doesn't mention anything about a "test background TM". I assume we're talking about concordance searches here, sincec you mention "sibling TMs". Do you mean that WFC creates its own BTM and then searches it? Or what do you mean by "test BTM"?

I don't use the latest version, but concordance searches always search the TM first, then the BTM, and then any sibling TMs, up to the maximum number of results. What is your maximum number of results (in PB e.g. ConcordanceMaxHits=100)?
The settings are standard and Concordance manually does find 75%+ fuzzy matches properly.
It's not possible to set a fuzzy percentage for concordance searches, as far as I know. You can set concordance to find only exact expressions, or not, or to find only exact words, or not, but concordance search will always find results with all the words that you search for, so it's never fuzzy.

So... what do you mean, then?
How to enable "up to 20 colleagues via LAN", would different WFC versions (5+) and W8/7/Vista/XP 32/64 get along?
If I understand correctly, you can share TMs and glossaries via the LAN, and those are simply text files. It should not matter which OS or which version of WFC anyone is using, since all versions of WFC use the same TM and glossary format.

For a demonstration I created a new TM1, assigned a background TM2 from the folder with TM3 and TM4.
The fuzzy threshold is 75% and Concordance set for all sibling TMs.
While WF says no match, a concordance search returns entries from TM3&4, leveraged at 75%+ when added to TM2 (BTM).

IF it's a demo limitation, then fine, yet--
How to make WFC search all sibling TMs without total merging?
(they are of different areas/styles/clients)

Ok, I seem to remember XP plus Vista/W7/8 LAN issues (empty passwords and like), but had doubts regarding WF versions.

Wf Classic is limited to TM & BTM. What you describe is normal behavior.

Post title: Corrupted TXLF fixed by creating a fresh project

Thanks for your help. I contacted Wordfast tech support who helped me solve the problem :-) Like you said John it was probably down to tags, the TXLF might have become corrupted along the way because the idml file was very long and had a lot of tags. So creating a new project helped. Here is what I did:

1. Made a copy of the original source file (identical, under different name)
2. Created a new WFP5 project, with an empty TM
3. Added file TXLF file from the previous project to the new project
4. Used Commit all to send all translations from the TXLF to the TM. Note I had the following settings in Preferences ticked:
Translation Memory

Write exact matches to TM
Write unedited MT to TM
Write unedited fuzzy to TM
Write unedited autopropagated fuzzy to TM

5. Added the copy of the original source file to the project
6. Used Translate All to translate it
7. I was able to use Save File as Translated on that file.

I still was not able to use Clean up but I have my translated file for now.

Wordfast 3 and Transcheck

Hello Collegues,

I'm working with WF3, although I've already installed also WF5, but I don't feel comfortable, yet. Moreover, it crashes very often.

In WF3 Transcheck, I'm looking for a check of "caps mismatch", not only for first word in a segment.
It would be important to check it briefly if a certain term in target segment matches the upper/lower case of the source segment. I know there is a way from the glossary, but this would mean to write a lot of words in the relevant glossary and both uppercase and lower case term should be written.

It seems there is this feature in WF5 (all caps mismatch), but I don't see any similar feature in WF3.

Thanks for your help
Lucia
