Problem importing an SDLPPX file into Wordfast Pro 5

An agency has sent me an SDL package but when I try to "Import SDL Package" into Wordfast Pro 5.13.0, I get an error message saying "Source locale es-x-mo-SDL is not supported".
My contact at the agency seems unable to help and I know very little about CAT interoperation and even less about SDL.
Can anyone advise please?
Many thanks!

I'm no expert, but.

It is my understanding that Wordfast Pro 5 supports only a very limited number of source and target languages. If the language is not in their list, you can't use it (and it won't work with a file that uses it). As far as I know, "es-x-mo-SDL" is a valid language code.

I don't think your client can change the language codes of a project in Trados in mid-project, so if your client wants to help you, they would have to recreate the project in Trados, and this time select a more primitive language code, e.g. "es". This is going to be a lot of work for them, though.

Alternatively, if you know how to open SDLXLIFF files in a text editor, you can unzip the SDLPPX file to get to the SDLXLIFF files and manually open them in a text editor and change the language codes to something that WFP5 will accept. This means that you can't import the SDLPPX file itself but need to work on the SDLXLIFF files as individual files.

How to select multiple segments in WF Pro? | more reasons to select multiple segments

Another suggestion:
Write all to TM: I inavertently did "do not write all to TM" (by pressing that shortcut, which I cannot remove) but the reverse command does not exist. So wither that one we need or the possibility of select multiple segments and then toggle the "do no write to TM" button.

Dear Leo and Elena,

This is the feedback I got from our developers:

"We would have to be able to define how it would work for each editor action. In order to start work on something this large we would have to start gathering and documenting expected behavior for each action when more than one segment is selected."

The developers would like to know what the biggest uses would be for multi-selecting segments?

Based on your previous post and some ideas, I can think of these:
1. Mark as confirmed
2. Mark as unconfirmed
3. Commit to TM
4. Delete target

Any others you can think of?

Please post here!

There is a shortcut in Preferences > Shortcuts for Do not write all segments to TM Ctrl+Shift+Enter, if you want all your segments to have this option removed use this one instead of doing one by one. Since this is a toggle button it will first add to add segments and second run it will remove.

Hope this helps.

Post title: Exactly the same problem with me - several months

Have you someone found a solution?
I have exactly the same error message like you, Carolina.
I have contacted WF support several times, nothing helps.
The last recommendation was to use another computer but this is not a question I would expect :-(

!!!IMPORTANT UPDATE - SOLUTION FOUND!!!
We have delved deeper into the problem with my husband today and found a solution a while ago.
This is what helped in my case:

Open Wordfast Pro.ini (I have it in folder Program Files > Wordfast Pro) in NotePad and change the line
-Xms1g
to be:
-Xmx1024m
Save the file and try to open Wordfast Pro.

With me it was not possible to simply save the Wordfast Pro.ini file so we have saved it in another folder, deleted the original file and replaced with this new one. And then WF Pro opened and it is working.

Exporting/Importing all fields in WF PRO 5 glossaries/blacklists

Hello, hope you're all well and staying safe.
For some reason glossary and blacklist imports/exports whether in tab-delimited or TBX format discard creation and modification dates and users, plus the ID field.
Am I missing something or is this the standard behavior for WF PRO 5?
For merging glossaries from different sources (either in WF or externally), it would help to know who has created/modified each term and when. Keeping the ID in the exports would make it easier to track terms.
This would also be useful when importing glossaries into WF (on a per entry basis, as each glossary may have more than one contributor).
Thanks for your help on this!

How to select multiple segments in WF Pro? | Working with segment subsets / combined with filters

Post title: Working with segment subsets / combined with filters

Hi John Daniel,
Thanks for your suggestion.
The need is to easily work with segment subsets (either contiguous or not). Another use for this would be, for example, applying a filter and then marking the resulting segments (or some of them) for certain tasks (those mentioned by John Di Rico and Josefa are spot on).
An additional use could be to add the same note to a bunch of segments (I understand this could be harder to implement and a workaround would be via bilingual export/import), but it is something I've come across.
A related function, though not quite the same, would be an inverse filter, which would allow to select non-locked segments and other combinations.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Issues with tags/tag-like text in glossaries and TMs

Poster: Leopoldo Gurman

Hi again WF Support Forum,

Due to the tags, the text isn't displaying correctly, please see the attached image.

I noticed that almost any text in the form of a tag (with the exception of special characters) will be removed from the glossaries while importing or trying to edit it in the Glossary Editor. So far, I've only tried with tab delimited text, not TBX.
For example, if I try to Write "A<u>nt" in the glossary editor, I get "Ant". "A<+>nt" will work fine.
Tag-like text also creates issues in the TMs, in this case, the behavior is correct (if there is a 100% match, it will be recognized and populated), but in the TM Lookup the tag-like parts parts are (sometimes, but not always) shown as removed text (highlighted in red and strikethrough) even though it is a 100% match.
Any suggestions to add <text like this> to glossaries are appreciated.
Thanks!

Post title: Same here

It's June 6 and I just updated WF5 to the latest version.

I am also using a 3700X Ryzen

So, it doesn't do this on my Surface laptop (Intel), but has always done so on this big monitor desktop. I literally feel like there is an egg-timer on the desk.

I never use MT in WF and the TM's are often just on this local machine - so I am going to rule out the remote TM idea.

It seems like the question needs asking - does anyone have this issue who does not have an AMD processor here?

On the 3700X, I am currently in PBO mode; but I often run a straight multiplier thru the bios; but so far the only combination I have not tried is cutting out some of the cores... (SMT)

Oh well, might as well give that a go then.

Hi James,

Can you check your PCs power saver mode if it is set for balanced or performance?
Uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' steps below:
Press Windows Key + S, and type Network and Sharing Center.
Click on the top result to open Network and Sharing Center.
Click on Change adapter settings.
Right click on Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.
Click on the Configure button.
Choose the Power Management tab.
Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your device and check if the issue persists.

Add Wordfast to your Windows Defender Exclusions list or any other firewall/antivirus program.

Let me know if these made any difference.

Thank you,
John

Interestingly, disabling SMT did make a difference; allowing it to go longer, or even to come back after a delay - but it also meant 3300 instead of 5000+ in Cinebench.

After working out what the Windows wording you gave me is for the language on this PC (I was too lazy to switch to EN), I did as was asked and lo and behold I can now walk away from the screen and go do other things again!!! LOL

~ this is with normal SMT and PBO; and I didn't touch the firewalls or antivirus ~

So thanks for all your help John and have a good rest of the weekend :)

My apologies Samuel, I didn't reply. I ended up getting quite bogged down in the issue and in the end the agency sent me the source document, which was a pain, but time was of the essence. Thanks for your kind help and advice.

Have just looked at the release notes for the new Wordfast Pro 5.15 at [url removed] , and yet again I am underwhelmed.

There are a whole load of issues that I don't think I've ever encountered and apart (possibly) from "Fixed issue with performance of opening Live Preview for PowerPoint files", I can see no benefit in upgrading.

It looks like - yet again - they have included not even one of the many suggestions and complaints that I've made over the last year or so. Sigh.

What do others think?

I contacted them many times about the possibility to select more than one segment at a time so that we can activate batch functions but this has never been taken into consideration.
And I think that this is a top feature that every other cat tool is provided with!!
You cannot lock or unlock something like 400 segments out of 2000 manually or can you???
I have been waiting for this feature for years but it is still work-in-progress!!!!!

The WFP5 team are doing their own thing.

So long as the program remains functional and usable, I will continue to download the updates. Or, if a client needs me to use a later version. This is in fact what happened recently with WFP5: a major client of mine upgraded their WFP server version, so it no longer works with certain older versions of WFP5.

Hi Samuel, no, there's no cost for downloading the new version. Mostly, my 10-12 feedback comments have not been for new features, but instead for them to fix things. For example, when I cut and paste a word or phrase out of WPF5 to then paste into another site (wikipedia, dictionary etc), I don't want all the HTML formatting gubbins that goes with it. None of my clients use WFP5 (most use Trados), so that reason for moving to a new version doesn't apply to me.
Cheers

This drives me crazy as well. I found a workaround during a recent translation which was to switch text formatting to show formatting as tags. It depends on how attached you are to WYSIWYG formatting and how much formatting your files have. In any event, I think this is an extremely high priority and should be fixed soon.
