Post title: Make it a preference
Hi John,
OK, so my brain is not paying tricks on me, it is a recent change. Thanks for reassuring me.
;-)
As to your question:
I use the Note tool for my work as a "backeditor". Without going into the details what that is, I have to review the translation along with the source, but cannot touch the translation. I have to write down my findings in comments, explaining what the problem is. If I were to work in MS Word, I would have to use the Command tool, without changing anything in the text.
It is part of quality control, one of the last steps before the translation is finalized. There are usually no questions at this stage, because the text had already been edited (at least 3 people have seen it), and all ambiguities have been resolved. So, to me, this change in the Wordfast Add Note dialog is very bad, as I deal with hundreds of projects like this per year.
If you want to please everyone, I guess the solution is to make this a preference ("Default note type") that the user can set, and the other choices would be listed below the default in the pull-down.
If you can't do that, and you want to go with a fixed order, then I think common sense would be to keep the most general thing as the default, and any special designations would have to be selected. "Question" and "Important" are special designations, IMHO. To be honest, calling the general note "text" is sort of meaningless, I think "comment" or even just "note" would make more sense as the general note type, but that is a minor detail.
Please confirm that if I go back to version 3.4.3 I would have the "text" note back - I would do it right away.
Thanks
Katalin
