Evelien, I don't know if this will help you, but the Wordfast Helpline found the source of the problem for me.
All you need to do is run a transcheck for tabs when you have finished your translation. If one single tag is missing from the target file, this will prevent the file from saving correctly. It's such an easy solution and I am glad to have finally sorted this out. :)
